Employee of the month

Employeeeee of the Month / January 2017

Big ideas are often celebrated, but smaller ideas are also worthy of praise. The glory of being Deux Huit Huit’s Employee of the Month for January 2017 falls to Mister Fréderic Lord, an interface designer, for his ingenuity and his sense of humour.

Our friend Fred was entrusted with designing a call-to-action that would boost newsletter subscription to the C’est beau website. We wanted to avoid the ubiquitous (and annoying) pop-up that blocks the entire home page and interrupts navigation. In addition to enhancing the user experience (UX), the solution also had to communicate the brand’s personality and engage the user emotionally. Although we didn’t think that we could laugh at another cat GIF, Fred cleverly integrated one into that concept that definitely got users smiling.

In December, Macaulay Culkin was the star of the holiday promotion for C’est beau’s online shop.

We developed a similar component for the SagoMini website. Since it was implemented, there’s been a significant increase in the company’s newletter signups.

We believe that the following elements explain why this strategic component was so successful:

  • Timing (suggesting an action at the right moment)
  • Navigation is not rudely interrupted
  • Animation that captures the user’s attention
  • Personalized tone of the copy
  • The size of the call-to-action

Bravo Fred, good stuff!

Frédéric Lord joined the Deux Huit Huit design team in 2015 as an interface designer. Since then, he has contributed to projects for Pointe-à-Callière Museum, Budge Studio, GSM Project, Pop Montreal, Concertium, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Milk & Bone and many more.

If Fred isn’t at his desk, look for him wearing a plaid shirt and swinging his hockey stick at La Petite Floride skating rink.
